It’s still brewed with grains like wheat and barley, but New Planet’s beer doesn’t have the gluten.

Pedro Gonzalez’s Boulder-based, beer-brewing business concept — which involves giving money to conservation projects starting with Wildlands Restoration Volunteers — took second at last night’s Entrepreneur’s Pitch Slam at the Naturally Boulder Days conference.

From today’s Daily Camera:

At the Pitch Slam, six entrepreneurs — selected from a field of more than 30 who gave pitches Wednesday — have a minute and a half to tout their businesses to a panel of four industry veterans. The panel members provide candid feedback and give the idea a thumbs-up or a thumbs-down.

“I felt like I had a good chance this year,” said Nova Covington-Halter, who presented at last year’s Pitch Slam and has seen more stores carry her organic sun care and other bodycare products.

Covington-Halter ended up taking home the first-place prize for her Goddess Garden company, which means she gets a $180,000 national sales and brand management contract.
